HISTORY OF BARANGAY POLANGYUTA
Polangyuta is a barangay located within the municipality of Siquijor, in the province of the same name. Geographically, it is situated at approximately 9.2051°N latitude and 123.5135°E longitude, with an elevation of about 40 meters (131.2 feet) above sea level.
Over the past few decades, Polangyuta has experienced steady population growth. In 1990, the population was recorded at 505 individuals. By 2020, this number had increased to 908, reflecting a gradual development within the community.
Polangyuta shares boundaries with several other barangays, including Calalinan, Canal, Bolos, Lambojon, Poblacion, Songculan, Tacdog, and Caitican. This proximity fosters interactions and shared cultural practices among these communities.
While specific historical records about Polangyuta are limited, its development is intertwined with the broader history of Siquijor. The island was first sighted by Spaniards in 1565 during Miguel López de Legazpi’s expedition and was called “Isla del Fuego” (Island of Fire) due to the glow of fireflies in its molave trees. Siquijor became a municipality in 1794, the same year its parish was established.
Today, Polangyuta contributes to the rich cultural tapestry of Siquijor, reflecting the island’s blend of historical influences and natural beauty.
The Barangay Polangyuta before is a sitio of Barangay Tacdog which has been name popularly of its REDS SOIL during the early 1950’s, they made this into Barangay, they got some portion of Barangay Canal and Barangay Tacdog which is known as Barangay Polangyuta. This Barangay has an area of 1,091,382 square meter with a low land and mountainous area .
Farming is the occupation of the people, mostly the product are coconut, cor, banana and cassava. With regards to peace and order situation in this barangay as of now, it is very peaceful, slight crimes only are committed.
In this barangay , the Punong Barangay is the Chief Executive and the Barangay Council is the Legislative body. The said officials are elective except the Barangay Secretaqry and Barangay Treasurer who are appointed by the council.
In more than four years of experience, Barangay Pongyuta has many changes because as of now we have fully completed roof of the Barangay Development Center, Solar Lights on the road going to Garden Bungalows and solar lights at sitio law.ang. Today, we are working as part of the normal life and activities that are lifestyle in nature. Work outcome outcome contributes in a vital way of life and life value. In fact, work may be considered of the life process of the human individuals and we have experience of continually of the work of the Filipino society. Today, we have grown convince that the search for relevant work is one of the most pursued within the context of the Philippine realities. Our country presents their historical roots, and perspective for solving them. Thus, the answer of relevant work is to have social transformation and we hope Polangyuta would be a Barangay of success not only socially, economically, but physically upright as quest for Philippine 2026.
